Comrade Julious Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, has leveled accusations against the Joe Ajaero-led Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its cohorts for allegedly misappropriating funds designated for staff salaries and other assets during the recent assault on the party's national headquarters. Abure, breaking his silence since the incident, condemned the labor leaders' actions as shameful and reckless. In a statement conveyed through the party's National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, Abure underscored the egregious nature of the trespass, denouncing it as a flagrant abuse of authority and disregard for the law. He emphasized that the NLC, under Ajaero's leadership, is not exempt from legal scrutiny and cannot act with impunity. Abure lamented the destruction caused during the siege, which saw the forcible entry, vandalism of property, and unlawful seizure of the secretariat. Furthermore, Abure highlighted the alleged theft of valuable items, including funds intended for salary disbursement and other official uses. He expressed deep disappointment at these actions, asserting that such behavior undermines the integrity of the NLC and erodes the achievements made during the 2023 general election. The NLC's Political Commission branded Abure as a "habitual liar." In response to Abure's accusation, Professor Theophilus Udubuaku, the Acting Chairman of the NLC's Political Commission, along with others, pointed out that Abure seemed to conveniently forget that it was the Ajaero-led NLC's protest that drove Lamidi Apapa away from the LP headquarters before Abure's arrival. Udubuaku emphasized the incredibility of Abure's claims, particularly regarding the alleged theft of billions of naira during the picketing. He noted that the presence of numerous law enforcement officers and members of the press during the protest contradicts Abure's accusations. Udubuaku criticized Abure's penchant for falsehoods, suggesting that such behavior reflects poorly on his character and integrity. Furthermore, Udubuaku stressed that the NLC is not interested in engaging in a media feud with Abure, asserting that their primary concern is not allowing him to unilaterally assume control of the LP. "The media is urged to fulfill its obligation by verifying the statements made by Abure and his associates and expose them as dishonest individuals."
