Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the now-defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has alleged that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, is considering joining forces with former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai in the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Bwala asserted that Obi's decision stemmed from the Nigerian Labour Congress's (NLC) move to assume control of the LP from Julius Abure's leadership. Posting on X, Bwala suggested that this coalition might not necessarily pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu's ambitions in the run-up to the 2027 presidential elections. He stated, "BREAKING: Peter Obi @PeterObi allegedly planning to unite with El-rufai @elrufai in Social Democratic Party as Nigerian Labour Congress set to take ownership and custody of their political party, the @NgLabour. "Bwala continued, "Recall that there was a judgment of the court that states that Nigeria Labour Congress owns Labour Party. NLC is now prepared to take custody of that party. Twists and turns in the coming days. But all that will not give sleepless nights to @officialABAT, who himself has his magic wands to wield." Meanwhile, El-Rufai had recently visited the headquarters of the SDP in Abuja, where he met with the SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam. Gabam welcomed El-Rufai, describing him as a friend with a notable political background and stating that Nigeria required transformative leaders like him. El-Rufai's visit was acknowledged by members of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) during his interaction at the SDP headquarters.
